Last minute Christmas Gifts and Great little stocking stuffers..

For those of you struggling with some last minute shopping, there is one item that makes a great gift or a great stocking stuffer and everyone can appreciate it. I’m referring to a t-shirt from a persons favorite bike builder, blogger, motorcycle dealership, or even their favorite product indorsement T. There are literally hundreds of great t-shirts to be had and one of them will be the perfect gift for someone you want to surprise.
Here are the ones on my list; Dorothy’s favorite artist, Jason Sarratt’s Hellcat Customs t-shirt with the awesome “Hellcat” on the front, my favorite east coast bike builder, Jason McCudden’s South Side Kustoms “Real Divas Ride” t-shirt to benefit breast cancer research, and one of my favorite bloggers, Liz Frazier at Rippin-Kitten has a great ladies “boy beater” with a terrific design. All of them would be great to find in my stocking!
Alas, I have NOT been a good girl this year and I’m not hopeful that Santa is going to grace my stocking with anything but a heap of coal and a stern warning. With that I have to say… proper acting women never make history and certainly never make an impression! Santa needs to learn to deal…….;)

HD’s Second Annual ‘Military Appreciation Month’? Southside Kustoms does that everyday!!

Motor Sports Newswire did a story on the Harley Davidson 2nd annual “Military Appreciation Month” and that left me compelled to tell my readers that Southside Kustoms in Buffalo, New York, does that everyday. In fact, they extend that to firefighters, EMTs, and the police that keep the population safe and often put their lives on the line, just like our military. Jason McCudden, owner of SSK, offers discounts all year-long;

With that said, enjoy your Veterans day and remember to shake the hand of a Vet you know, visit a memorial, or take a minute to visit one of the many Veterans hospitals.. just to say “Thank you”. Where would we be without their dedication and sacrifice?
Kudos to Harley-Davidson for their efforts! I believe we need to say “Thank you” any day we can. Like Jason, everyday is a day to thank the people who keep us safe. Thanks, Jason! And, thank you to all our military, past and present.

Want to be like SSK..doin my part!

My buddies at South Side Kustoms are very charitable business owners. They have the “Real Divas Ride” motorcycle with a portion of the sale going to Breast Cancer Research and a new t-shirt coming soon.

So, I wanted to show them that I do my part, as well.  Sunday the 19th was Portland’s Susan G. Komens “Race for the Cure” and it was quite an event! Here are some pictures of the ride downtown on our MAX Rapid Transit line. Wall to wall people in pink accessories!! We were the happiest sardines you ever saw…

And, once we got downtown to the waterfront, there was more to see!

There were news crew…

And loads of help, if needed..

And when we were all in place, all of the thousands of women in the dark pink shirts (survivors) and all the rest of men, women and kids, in the white shirts, walked for 5 miles, side by side. You couldn’t help but have a constant lump in your throat. Some of the women would never have the chance to come back and walk the 5 miles again. But, today they walked. They finished the race and walked into the survivors lane where their families and friends cheered them on and meeting them with hugs, kisses, tears and flowers.
With this race and others across the country and all the money donated, there may be a day when breast cancer is a thing of the past. Until then, we all need to do our parts. A huge thanx goes out to South Side Kustoms, the family of Susan G. Komen, all the people who walked 5 miles on Sunday, and everyone else that does their part to help find a cure…. cuz that’s what we really want!

Race for the Cure and South Side Kustoms…

It’s that time of year again and I will be participating in the Susan G. Komen Foundation “Race for the Cure” on Sunday, September 19th in downtown Portland, Oregon. I am honored to be walking with my BFF who is a 3 year breast cancer survivor! GO, VICKI!!
Now, when I think of the breast cancer fight, I cant help but think of my wonderful friends at South Side Kustoms. They have built a special “Real Divas Ride” themed bike that is just the women in the world and meant to help with the fight against breast cancer as well as give friends/family members a way to honor those that lost their fight but are never forgotten. I did a previous blog about the generosity of these guys and cant help but blog about them again. You have got to see the bike they put together, it is so beautiful! Jason…you are an amazing young man with an amazing woman at your side. Keep rockin the place with your generous hearts, my friends.
October is “Breast Cancer Awareness” month. Remember to take care of the “girls”, inside and out!

Dorothy’s getting a make-over….

So, I send the panels to my beloved little electric bike, Dorothy, down to my buddies at Hellcat Customs in Chandler, Arizona.  I wait and I wonder… Jason, being one of the finest artists I know, is capable of such beauty.  But, what does he have in store for Dorothy’s make-over?  What could he be thinking?  Hmmmmmmmmm
Just to tease me a bit, he sends me these pics of his beautiful lady, Kelly Rogers aka FireyPinkGirl on Twitter, prepping the panels and the pink color that they chose.  As I expected, it was more than I expected!!
Look and drool.

Thank you, Kelly, for the hard work and picking a fabulous color. Dorothy is going to be the bell of the ball!

South Side Kustoms 5th anniversary..and how they roll.

I was planning to write the same old blog on May being the second annual Women Riders Month…  then I changed my mind. We all know it’s the second annual Women Riders Month; check any motorcycle blog out there!  I decided to spotlight someone who celebrates women in a really big way.  Let me explain………
My friends at South Side Kustoms have hit the five-year mark on May 4th, being in business in the town of Buffalo, New York.  Quite an accomplishment for a guy that started out helping his dad in the backyard. Even with the celebration of their own anniversary, they give to the patrons!  Great work guys and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WITH MANY MORE TO COME!small5year So, keep reading….  (And, I realize I wrote 10th anniversary on the previous blog.. sleep deprivation is not a good place to be when blogging! My appologies.)
 Here is a little info about Jason McCudden, owner and operator of SSK. I will take the words right from him because I have learned that no one says it quite like the masters themselves;
 I am a machinist and certified welder by trade, so “CAN’T ISN’T IN MY VOCABULARY” – I started hotrodding as a kid with my dad in the backyard helping him paint white walls on tires. Cars are my first love and always will be. It won’t be long before you see 4 wheeled beauties rolling out of SSK. I bounced around doing warehousing management for years until I found myself jobless. Then thought “now what am I going to do?”  So I went to welding school – got my certs – still couldn’t find a job (no experience – really I can weld better than most who have been doing it for years – but such is the course) So I figured why not start getting paid for my hobby. What else was I gonna do, go work for someone else again for years until my use ran out and I found myself unemployed again? No, I was tired of working for someone else. Time to do something for my family and my kids’ future. Thus, South Side Kustoms was born in May of 2005. Since then – it’s been a struggle, the impending doom of lights being shut off and so on. But now I can see the fruits of my labor. Coming up on 5 years in business we have been featured in 8 magazines from Outlaw Biker to Easyriders Magazine. Featured as one of 13 great budget builders in Barnett’s, even graced the cover of ‘Wheels of Grace’ a Christian Biker Magazine, with no less than our Jack-O-Lantern Bike that put SSK on the map.”
“Yeah and I cut the fender out with a jigsaw and files NOT a water jet. Hell, I do all my cutouts that way. Handmade ALL AMERICAN bikes. I pride myself on quality bikes at reasonable prices and ALL AMERICAN Parts. I would rather sell 10 bikes and make a couple of bucks then make 30K on one bike. But that’s me……”
“We have 3 new base models for 2010 (the Rock-n-Rolla, the Hitman and theValiant Evolution) ALL REASONABLY priced especially for what you get with no corner cutting.”
“Where is the future leading us – bigger and better – I just moved into an old 1940’s gas station (nice modest place) with plenty of room to grow on the property. 4 builds currently going and parts sales on the way up.
Plus like I said, you will see 4 wheeled beauties coming from us soon. We are already a dealer for all the top of the line auto wheels – air suspensions and yes hydraulics!

Now, there are a couple of reasons I think of  this guy and his crew as special but, one really hits home on a very personal level.  Jason, being a big burly motorcycle dude,  has managed to put together a smokin hot motorcycle, “Limited Edition Real Divas Ride”, to honor women. And not just any women but, women that have, are, and will be battling breast cancer or anyone who knows someone that has fought that battle. There is even the option to put dates and a name inside the pink ribbon on the tank!   Along with the thoughtful development of this motorcycle,  there is also $1500.00 of the proceeds being donated to “Divas for a Cure” for Breast Cancer Research so that someday they may eradicate this deadly disease.

From the $1000.00 discount on all bikes to military, law enforcement, firemen, and EMTs to the American Red Cross motorcycle built for a charity raffle, these guys just know how to give back!
In addition to all the other accomplishments, SSK has gone global! Kudos, Jason!!

 It’s hard to find a true “class act” but, I have found one here.  If you want to look at all the fine motorcycles SSK have available…and I hope you do, go to their website ( and enjoy the sights.

In closing, I am privileged to have had dealings with South Side Kustoms and want to wish them a very HAPPY 5th ANNIVERSARY.  Here’s to many more years of clients enjoying the amazing bikes, the community reaping the benefits of their giving spirit, and watching SSK grow and prosper. I, personally, can’t wait!!

Lady Godiva on wheels……. I love you guys cuz that’s how you roll!!
